Frozen Yogurt, my new favorite

If you live in Upstate NY then I'm sure you have heard the radio advertisement for Guptel's Frozen Yogurt (maybe a few more times than you would like).  I personally have never been to this yogurt shop but I have been to the 'new' 16 Handles in Clifton Park.  I'm not sure if the store itself is new, but it's new to me!  I have to say that the frozen yogurt was very refreshing and the fresh fruit toppings were a plus.
I enjoyed the store because the consumer is in control of everything, so you don't have to pay for something you might not want.  After choosing the right size dish (which I wish they had an extra small because the small was way too big for me) you are able to look over the 16 different flavors available to you.  They all have nutrition labels on the front of the screens that tell you calories, fat content, sugar etc.  I think it's great that they do this because it allows the consumer to educate themselves about what they are minutes away from eating.  You can also mix and match, which gives you the option to have a couple of bites of a higher calorie treat mixed in with something a little lighter.
Next it was on to the toppings, my favorite part!  I was impressed by the selection of fresh cut fruits they had out (kiwi, mango, pineapple, pear to name just a few).  Of course they also had all of the normal sundae staples like chocolate chips, crushed Oreos, and peanut butter pieces.  They don't list the nutritional facts with the toppings but there were obviously some options that were healthier than others.  At the last station, there was an option for chocolate syrup or hot fudge.  I have yet to take advantage of this station because both time I went straight for the fruit toppings and just didn't think they would mix well.
The yogurt and toppings are priced by weight, so depending on how much you stuffed into your bowl your price range will vary.  When you're all done there is also a recycling bin for your left over bowl/spoon, over all the company is very environmentally friendly.  Overall frozen yogurt is a healthier treat than regular ice cream, with lower calories and fat content and the option to load up on fresh fruits you can't go wrong.  With all this being said, it's summer time, so try out this frozen yogurt shop and treat yourself!
