I just got done reading a fellow blogger’s daily post about the new McDonald's Frozen Strawberry Lemonade, so I thought I'd share my thoughts on this sugary, high calorie drink. Like many of you I have seen the commercial many times for the new frozen treat at McDonalds. If you think about it, this drink actually sounds like it might be good for you. Fresh lemonade is good for you (as long as there isn't that much sugar added) and strawberries and ice don't hurt you either. But let’s be realistic, this is McDonald's, so the 'strawberries' means it contains a strawberry flavored syrup filled with food coloring and high fructose corn syrup and the frozen lemonade part is just crushed ice with a combination of lemon flavorings. Not to mention the drink is packing 270 calories, 30 grams of sodium, 68 grams of carbs and 67 grams of sugar.
As a semi-extreme couponer I noticed that there was a coupon for a free 12oz Frozen Strawberry Lemonade this past Sunday, mixed in the news week section. So, I went and purchased the small drink for my fiancé, and I tried just a small sip myself. Believe me, if you are a fan of lemonade and strawberries DO NOT purchase this drink, it will only disappoint you with its extremely syrupy taste and bad flavoring, and of course there’s the empty calories and excess sugar. I should have stuck to my gut on this one and avoided McDonald's in the first place, believe me, it's not somewhere I usually go.
Do any of you have good frozen drink recipes? Submit drinks that have real fruits and juices in them, and I'll be sure to try them out!
