The Giants are also in the loop when it comes to chiropractic care. Dr. Rob DeStefano is the teams official chiropractor, available to all the players and waiting on the side lines at all times. Dr. DeStafano says that his role with the team is to help fine tune the players between plays, working on muscles and manipulating joints to ensure players are functioning at their best. The doctor uses a technique called pin and strech in which he shortens the muscle, pins it down, and then stretches the muscle under his contact point. Dr. DeStafano summarizes what he does with the team by saying that he focuses on “what’s wrong with the muscle pulling on the bone, and when we can restore the muscle back to full health, then the bone moves properly and the joints work effectively.” Check out this link to see how the NY Giants use chiropractic care to their advantage!
The superbowl is only one week away and these top athletes know how to stay a step ahead of the game. Top players from both the Patriots and Giants are getting adjusted regularly (sometimes even during halftime) to give themselves an extra edge against their opponents. The quote above is from Patriots quarterback Tom Brady, describing how chiropractic makes him feel. Brady, along with many other players on the Patriots team get chiropractic treatment to help keep their muscles and joints feeling and functioning at an optimal level.

If you live in Albany County you may have noticed a couple of new billboards. The Physician's Committee for Responsible Medicine (PCRM) has launched a campaign that would cut down the amount of
cheese in all meals served in the Albany County School District in an attempt to battle childhood obesity. Dr. Neil Barnard, president of PCRM, says “Typical cheeses are 70 percent fat, and the type of fat they hold is mainly saturated fat—the kind that increases your risk of heart disease and diabetes. Cheese is also loaded with cholesterol and sodium. Americans eat more than 33 pounds of cheese per person per year—three times more than they did in 1970—and our country is more obese than ever.” Currently almost 60% of NYS adults are either overweight or obese and nearly 1 in every 4 children under the age of 18 are obese. It is obvious that something needs to change with our diets and lifestyle and I think that a change in our children's lunch menu may be a good start to helping NYS live healthier, more active lives. For more information on this campaign check out the PCRM website. I came across an article in the New York Times that summarized a study recently done that looked at the effectiveness of chiropractic treatment and exercise versus drug treatment. It showed that patients had more relief from their symptoms when treated with chiropractic manipulations or were prescribed exercises rather than drugs.
